EM & Co Brings Europe to You

On Thursday, November 3, EM & Co hosted a very special event to bring to the public four amazing European designers. EM & Co is located at 7940 W. 3rd St,  near The Farmer’s Market, amongst a string of great little boutiques.  EM & Co carries a variety of fashions from various designers and unique accessories to match all styles, from casual to cocktail to couture. The spotlight was on four designers, from France, Romania and Ukraine. The ambiance of the night was relaxed and welcoming as models posed on pedestals wearing the designers’ new Fall and Spring collections.

From Romania, Elena Perseil, was one of the featured designers with a very unique style. Her eveningwear and couture line are well worth mentioning. She met a bit of every shopper’s style with sequence bolero jackets and dresses, minis and long, even evening gowns. Some of the dresses included a lavender dress with a branching floral pattern in sheer fabric overlays, and a black cocktail dress with zipper trim along the hem and sleeve accented with a purple stripe down the back, a very interesting design wearable for any night on the town. The feather dress in a neutral tone draped to the floor was spectacular. Elena Perseil spared no detail with this elaborate head turner.

Elisabeth Delauney is from France and has been designing for 25 years. Her line included faux fur vests and coats in animal prints and solids. The designs included tunics with scooping pockets, crochets and knit fabrics.  With the right accessories, these outfits can be transformed into a comfortable and sassy evening look. This is Delauney’s first step in the US. Her popularity and success in Europe is sure to follow her to the US.

Handbags by Torula, are a great accent for any occasion. These clutch bags are made from leather and ostrich skin.  The four featured fall colors were black, grey, taupe, and red. All the bags had suede lining and a removable chain for wear as a shoulder bag or a clutch. Torula’s designs were very simple yet elegant and very well made. Torula also makes wallets and other leather goods to accessorize your day or evening look.

Olena Dats from Ukraine, had some great designs including a long black wrap dress wearable in four different ways. This dress was elegant and had style as did its neutral tone shorter counterpart.  The other dresses and gowns were full of colorful designs in bold solids and intriguing patterns.

The designer collections will be available exclusively at EM & Co throughout the holidays, but after December they will be pulled and pop up again in Feb/Mar with new collections. The company Fashion Forwards brings these European designers to the US.“Bringing European fashions to Los Angeles has always been part of our constantly growing fashion industry,” says Fashion Forwards USA Coordinator, Alexandra Tuil. Fashion Forwards represents these designers in what they call a pop up store. New lines from these and other designers will appear in more pop up stores every few months so keep your eyes open.

Dina Bar-El’s 2012 Collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week

Dina Bar-El is known for the stunning yellow dress Kate Hudson wore in How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days and some of the dresses at Los Angeles Fashion Week in October were just as stunning.

There were a variety of dress styles to hit the runway and they all had one thing in common, form-fitting and super sexy, and some were even fun. The light-hearted white citrus fruit dress was all about fun, a carefree dress for a more casual encounter. Polka dots make an appearance in a half sleeve off the shoulder dress with that same elegant sex appeal Julia Roberts had in her polka dot dress in Pretty Woman. The sexy styles continued as the show went on. The mustard criss-cross front and teal ruched dress were both low cut and super hot. Depending on your intentions, wear them to the office or to play, either way you are sure to be noticed. There is also shine and shimmer in this collection. Between the cocktail dresses and gowns, glittery gold and rich blues with scooped necks or shoulder straps made Dina Bar-El’s new collection a dazzling one.

The glamorous evening gowns were the stars of this collection. Dina Bar-El definitely mixes luxury with life. The smashing off the shoulder long red dress had two silky accent lines running down the front with a high-cut slit giving this dress an exquisite attitude. The best however was a white floor length gown with a rhinestone waist accent shaped like a giant snowflake was as graceful and elegant as it gets. Most of Dina Bar-El’s 2012 collection has the elegant look a woman wants and the comfort she demands, for a price of course.

Fashion Week LA: XCVI’s Flattering and Versatile Collection

XCVI debuted their new collection at LA Fashion week and it was stunning to say the least. XCVI’s effortless, eclectic, bohemian style is a perfect match for any confident woman. Their loose, breezy clothing looked far from frumpy- in fact, the clothes were more flattering than many of the lines I’ve had the privilege to view during fashion week. XCVI’s biggest strength would absolutely be the fact that their clothing is universal- any type of woman could wear a multitude of pieces from the line.  XCVI prides themselves on the luxury of their fabrics being extra soft and breathable, and after viewing this collection, their description is on par.

The clothing was gracefully draped against each models body, and the fact that every piece from the collection looked as if it could be mixed and matched is perfect for someone like me. XCVI showcased ensembles that would be fitting for the workplace or a night out- true versatility! I adore an outfit I can wear to the office then straight to after work drinks.

Without further ado, let’s go over the pieces that caught my eye on the runway. XCVI kept hair and makeup effortless, allowing the crowd to focus on their clothing. Models makeup was minimal except for fire engine red lipstick and a touch of mascara.  First off, the dresses were mostly long and solid in color. An orange, Grecian inspired dress caught my eye more than most- enticing color, ideal length, and elegant detail- although there was just a simple tie at each shoulder, that alone added an interesting touch to an otherwise simple frock. Other dresses walked the runway with lace and fringe detail (I have been seeing a ton of this lately). My favorite piece was a black and white flowy skirt with a black men’s inspired button down that showed the perfect amount of cleavage; it was paired off with a thick brown belt that tied the look together impeccably. Pants seemed to be a staple in the show- lengths ranged from short to long and material ranged from cargo to linen- the list was endless.  I especially liked an off the shoulder white and blue peasant top paired with capri’s. This show really proved my point that the A-Line is back and in a big way- long skirts were paired with loose fitting tee shirts were an ideal mix of classy and casual. The rule “don’t wear white after labor day” is one I choose not to follow, and apparently XCVI agrees with me. The show featured various white pieces with lace and crochet detail. Models looked young and fresh in white maxi dresses, detailed blouses, and movable, flattering skirts.

Karen Capili – The Modern Renaissance Women of Los Angeles Fashion Week 2011

Saturday night at Sunset Gower, designers’ new collections brought jaws to the floor and Karen Capili did just that. Wow!

Embroidery with intricate detail, each facet of the gowns were carefully and meticulously detailed with flowers, floral embroidery, sequence and even feathers. These gowns were a show stopper. There were gowns with hundreds if not thousands of delicate flowers carefully connected to create exquisite and wearable pieces of art in bold reds, yellows and pinks. The lavish gowns all had their own unique styles. From the yellow feathered gown that would make big bird blush to the Cinderellaesque design of the bustled lavender and pink ball gown, Capili spared no imagination and glamour when creating this new collection.

Capili’s variety of colors and fabrics are inspired by the boldness of those the 1980s was known for, entwined with the eloquence of the Victorian Era. Even the more modern designs like the black bubble mini with a white one- shouldered top and the dress designed with reusable supermarket bags for the eco-friendly consumer, were a smashing hit. Capili is definitely one to watch in the coming year for more unique and bold collections.

LAFW – Project Ethos: Glaudi’s Glamorous Collection

Up and coming designer, Johana Hernandez presented her Glaudi collection at the Project Ethos LA Fashion Week show at the House of Blues in Hollywood.  Project Ethos was a fabulous show- I rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in the industry and all of us were there for the same reason-to support a new breed of LA designers. The music, art direction and overall vibe of the show was unique from any I’ve seen, and I truly believe that after seeing Hernandez’s collection, she’ll absolutely become a household name. She was the only hispanic designer that showed a collection at this event, highlighting why so many Latino celebrities joined her in support of her new line.

Glaudi is known for being an avant-garde and highly detailed line that has received praise from numerous Latina celebrities such as Susie Castillo, Fernanda Romero, and Anahi. Celebs have worn the collection on the red carpet, on TV, in movies, and at photo shoots.  The line, which can be interpreted as both elegant and sexy is perfect for a night out on the town or for a star studded award show.

Glaudi’s fall collection was beyond glamorous.  Each dress had its own personality and those personalities were anything but tame. To start, Hernandez showcased her love for black with corseted tops, ruffles and once again, what I predict to be a huge trend for fall, the A-Line skirt. Some of her corsets were covered in crystals with short feathered skirts attached- absolutely stunning to say the least.  She also seemed to lean towards Lady Gaga inspired looks with models clad in one shouldered, structured tight dresses in emerald green, gold with glitter, and lots of fringe and tassles. One model even came out in mirrored glasses (if that doesn’t say Gaga, i don’t know what does).  Many of Glaudi’s dresses were simple in color, but with revealing cut out’s, the collection was anything but simple. For the finale, a model walked out in a purple sequined leotard with a flowing mermaid style skirt attached. It was open in the front and in the back, showing just the right amount of leg.

In the end, Hernandez walked out with a huge smile on her face and electrifying energy to thank her fans. She looked radiant in one of her own creations- a royal blue sparkled top paired with a unique fringed skirt. Kudos to her- I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of Glaudi in the near future.
