Dina Bar-El’s 2012 Collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week

Dina Bar-El is known for the stunning yellow dress Kate Hudson wore in How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days and some of the dresses at Los Angeles Fashion Week in October were just as stunning.

There were a variety of dress styles to hit the runway and they all had one thing in common, form-fitting and super sexy, and some were even fun. The light-hearted white citrus fruit dress was all about fun, a carefree dress for a more casual encounter. Polka dots make an appearance in a half sleeve off the shoulder dress with that same elegant sex appeal Julia Roberts had in her polka dot dress in Pretty Woman. The sexy styles continued as the show went on. The mustard criss-cross front and teal ruched dress were both low cut and super hot. Depending on your intentions, wear them to the office or to play, either way you are sure to be noticed. There is also shine and shimmer in this collection. Between the cocktail dresses and gowns, glittery gold and rich blues with scooped necks or shoulder straps made Dina Bar-El’s new collection a dazzling one.

The glamorous evening gowns were the stars of this collection. Dina Bar-El definitely mixes luxury with life. The smashing off the shoulder long red dress had two silky accent lines running down the front with a high-cut slit giving this dress an exquisite attitude. The best however was a white floor length gown with a rhinestone waist accent shaped like a giant snowflake was as graceful and elegant as it gets. Most of Dina Bar-El’s 2012 collection has the elegant look a woman wants and the comfort she demands, for a price of course.

Betsey Johnson – The Queen of Funky Fashion

Sunday, October 23, at   LA Fashion Week at Sunset Gower Studios, Betsey Johnson unveiled yet another classic collection. As you may know, over a decade ago, Betsey Johnson was diagnosed with breast cancer, and although when first diagnosed, she confided only in her daughter Lulu, today, she is a survivor and she loudly and proudly supports breast cancer awareness through fashion events, parties and donations to the non-profit organization, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, and her fashion sense is still rockin’. Betsey Johnson is known for her wild fashion sense and funky fusions of fabrics and styles. We saw everything from tartan plaid paired with red leopard and lace, to school lessons, yes a “teach me a lesson” bright yellow ruler knit top.  As always, her patterns and fabrics in combination with her wild ideas rocked the runway. A personal favorite was the pink tutu dress, accented by a dark brown leopard print coat (reminiscent of my first $600 faux leopard coat bought 20 years ago, a classic Betsey Johnson I still wear today.) The pink zipper-top bustier ruffled dress worn with a crocheted black sweater, accented with a floral trim was also a crowd pleaser.

The collection had a variety of minis, from skirts to dresses, all with bustier corset tops in the bubble or tutu style. One stunning design was the burgundy velvet bustier corset dress accented by a huge pink ribbon set across the chest. It had a hot pink ruffled tutu bottom with light pink trim that bounced about the runway. Velvet, fur and lace, all classic to Betsey Johnson’s style, made a plentiful appearance. There were bold colors and patterns mismatched in a way that only Johnson can pull off. Always a fan of a woman I consider to be a goddess of the fashion world.

Fashion Week LA: XCVI’s Flattering and Versatile Collection

XCVI debuted their new collection at LA Fashion week and it was stunning to say the least. XCVI’s effortless, eclectic, bohemian style is a perfect match for any confident woman. Their loose, breezy clothing looked far from frumpy- in fact, the clothes were more flattering than many of the lines I’ve had the privilege to view during fashion week. XCVI’s biggest strength would absolutely be the fact that their clothing is universal- any type of woman could wear a multitude of pieces from the line.  XCVI prides themselves on the luxury of their fabrics being extra soft and breathable, and after viewing this collection, their description is on par.

The clothing was gracefully draped against each models body, and the fact that every piece from the collection looked as if it could be mixed and matched is perfect for someone like me. XCVI showcased ensembles that would be fitting for the workplace or a night out- true versatility! I adore an outfit I can wear to the office then straight to after work drinks.

Without further ado, let’s go over the pieces that caught my eye on the runway. XCVI kept hair and makeup effortless, allowing the crowd to focus on their clothing. Models makeup was minimal except for fire engine red lipstick and a touch of mascara.  First off, the dresses were mostly long and solid in color. An orange, Grecian inspired dress caught my eye more than most- enticing color, ideal length, and elegant detail- although there was just a simple tie at each shoulder, that alone added an interesting touch to an otherwise simple frock. Other dresses walked the runway with lace and fringe detail (I have been seeing a ton of this lately). My favorite piece was a black and white flowy skirt with a black men’s inspired button down that showed the perfect amount of cleavage; it was paired off with a thick brown belt that tied the look together impeccably. Pants seemed to be a staple in the show- lengths ranged from short to long and material ranged from cargo to linen- the list was endless.  I especially liked an off the shoulder white and blue peasant top paired with capri’s. This show really proved my point that the A-Line is back and in a big way- long skirts were paired with loose fitting tee shirts were an ideal mix of classy and casual. The rule “don’t wear white after labor day” is one I choose not to follow, and apparently XCVI agrees with me. The show featured various white pieces with lace and crochet detail. Models looked young and fresh in white maxi dresses, detailed blouses, and movable, flattering skirts.

Kelly Nishimoto – Lace and Grace on LA Fashion Week Runway – Spring/Summer 2012

Kelly Nishimoto is one of the favorites for the 2011 Los Angeles Fashion Week. A four time veteran to Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, it is no surprise that Nishimoto rocked the runway with her new Play. Lounge. Sleep. collection The flowing sheer fabrics in fuchsia and plum tones accented with black lace were just some of the elegant and sexy styles to walk down the runway. Hearts infused in many of the designs are sure to be a hit for any Valentine. The pale peaches and off-white tones used for some of the outerwear gave the feel of comfort and style with the pizzazz and elegance Nishimoto is always sure to deliver. We look forward to seeing more of her collections in 2012

Fashion Week LA: Gypsy05’s Gorgeous Collection

Gypsy 05 – Gorgeous Collection and an amazing show!

I had the opportunity to attend The Gypsy05 show at the Vibiana in Downtown LA.  Upon entering, I headed into the courtyard where the cocktail hour was planned.  People were dressed to the tens: wearing Gypsy05’s own line, heaps of black, boots, and I saw more people wearing glasses than at the library. The crowd was uber trendy and super friendly. Everyone seemed to be mingling with one another, even the A-List celebs.

When we walked into the show, the first thing I noticed was the elaborate set up.  The Vibiana is a grand venue- high cathedral style ceilings, all white interiors- very “old Hollywood”. Once everyone was seated (which took a little while to organize), the show was ready to commence. From the moment the music started, I could immediately predict the theme of the show- ethnic was my first thought and I was absolutely right. The first model walked out in a long Gypsy05 dress that kept getting longer and longer… another model actually sat down at the entrance of the runway and held it as she walked further and further down the catwalk. Surprisingly, more models joined them and they preformed a dramatic dance sequence, even receiving a standing ovation at the end.

After the dancers went backstage, the real show began.  Models were clad in long, flowy dresses, typical of the free spirited Gypsy05 style, yet, materials were much more high end than past collections. It seemed as if linen and silk were the go-to materials for men. The comfortable yet elegant dresses were dressed up with gold chains, high heels and glamorous bracelets.  A major theme seemed to be the “ombre” trend; most of the dresses on the runway started dark and ended light- so stunning. Many dresses were also A-Line which I believe was a nice twist on many of Gypsy’s simple Maxi dresses that we’ve been seeing for years. As an avid lover of the line, I was elated when I saw the women’s pants (note to self: purchase immediately).  These pants were gorgeous- lots of movement, beautiful colors, suitable for night or day, and they looked beyond comfortable.

Who knew Gypsy05 had a men’s line? I didn’t! The line looked comfortable, yet trendy, and had an apparent Navajo theme. I observed lots of green, purple and royal blue cut off sweat shorts, along with loose, printed t-shirts. Men were also clad in masculine fringed scarves and simple tennis shoes.

Overall, I believe the reaction from the crowd was positive. All in all, the event layout was beautiful. I heard positive reactions from the crowd about the clothing and about how different this collection was than past collections. The music, the way that the set up tied in with the clothing, and the hair and makeup worked extremely well with each other. Upon leaving, the first thing my girlfriend and I said to each other was, “Let’s book a flight to Miami- just so we could wear these dresses”.  I see Gypsy05’s Fall Collection selling very well.

Nicolita presents the Con Sabor Tropical Collection at Style Fashion Week

On Monday, October 17, Style Fashion Week began at the Vibiana, downtown Los Angeles. The first show was presented by Nicolita Swimwear  who just set the  runway on fire. The whole ambiance was just a perfect setting to showcase the Con Sabor Tropical Collection, Rumba Ruffles, Club Nautico and Off the Runway collections. The colors, designs, accessories and models made you feel like you are in Miami, or perhaps Havana, Cuba.

The colorful Cuban influence was refreshing to see and if you have not seen Nicolitas printed catalog  yet, you are missing out on some  amazing Latin romantic dreamscape imagery.  Special Cubano celebrity guest, Ojani Noa, showed off the Nicolita Cuba Classic Boardshort for men. Models were accessorized with  Bijou Tresor Jewelry , Chinese Laundry shoes  (Hotline, Hotness  and Whistle style ) and Tres Noir glasses.  Hair and make up was just perfect, bringing  lots of life and color to the whole setting.

Nicolita has become a celebrity favorite; A-listers including Beyonce, Kristen Cavallari, Rihanna, Tori Spelling and Britney Spears are among customers of the brand. Nicolita has set itself apart in the swimwear industry with a signature fit of “Cuban-style swimwear bottoms” designed for the curvaceous Latina figure. “Cuban-style bottoms are designed with more coverage on the hips, a heart-shaped backside and ‘no-pinch’ fit elastic,” said the designer Nicole Di Rocco.

Nicolita swimwear is definitely one of our favorites this season!
