Sunday, October 23, at LA Fashion Week at Sunset Gower Studios, Betsey Johnson unveiled yet another classic collection. As you may know, over a decade ago, Betsey Johnson was diagnosed with breast cancer, and although when first diagnosed, she confided only in her daughter Lulu, today, she is a survivor and she loudly and proudly supports breast cancer awareness through fashion events, parties and donations to the non-profit organization, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, and her fashion sense is still rockin’. Betsey Johnson is known for her wild fashion sense and funky fusions of fabrics and styles. We saw everything from tartan plaid paired with red leopard and lace, to school lessons, yes a “teach me a lesson” bright yellow ruler knit top. As always, her patterns and fabrics in combination with her wild ideas rocked the runway. A personal favorite was the pink tutu dress, accented by a dark brown leopard print coat (reminiscent of my first $600 faux leopard coat bought 20 years ago, a classic Betsey Johnson I still wear today.) The pink zipper-top bustier ruffled dress worn with a crocheted black sweater, accented with a floral trim was also a crowd pleaser.
The collection had a variety of minis, from skirts to dresses, all with bustier corset tops in the bubble or tutu style. One stunning design was the burgundy velvet bustier corset dress accented by a huge pink ribbon set across the chest. It had a hot pink ruffled tutu bottom with light pink trim that bounced about the runway. Velvet, fur and lace, all classic to Betsey Johnson’s style, made a plentiful appearance. There were bold colors and patterns mismatched in a way that only Johnson can pull off. Always a fan of a woman I consider to be a goddess of the fashion world.
