Fashion Week LA: Culture Swimwear 2012 collection

I was excited to attend Culture Swimwear’s launch of its first collection for the Spring/Summer 2012 season at Los Angeles Fashion Week. Culture swimwear prides itself on their colorful prints and solid cover-ups that are made of recycled and vintage fabrics with crochet details. Culture Swimwear is also charitable! The line has teamed up with the Cambodian born organization Keokjay. Keokjay has created jobs and resources that give women with HIV/AIDS in Cambodia fair opportunities and wages, enabling them to build up a quality of life for themselves and their families while getting healthy.   It also aids in sending their children to school and diminishing the cycle of poverty.  Their collection is inspired by the free spirit and beauty of all women, and the fact that they help out those who are poverty stricken makes me adore the collection even more.

I officially was obsessing over the first suit to show up on the runway.  It was an electric blue, printed one piece with the deepest V I have seen in years! The color was beautiful, the design was fun, and the fit was great. Another great one piece was a strapless tan number with a matching headband- I loved the details on this!  The same print came out in strapless and halter bikini’s and I loved it.

Leopard is one of my favorite prints and I am loving it for the upcoming season. Strappy and strapless leopard print bikinis strutted down the runway, and the print was broken up by a stud-like print in gold. The patterns mix was different, unusual, and stunning. I loved the transparent cover up and head piece that one model wore.

Tribal appears again! A one piece with a low cut front and back was my favorite of them all. I would pair it with a loose pair of linen pants and stroll along the beach or to lunch. Usually, one pieces are not the most flattering suits, but this one flattered the model in all the right places.  The print appeared again in bikinis in numerous different styles.

The finale model looked absolutely stunning in a tiny bikini with an elaborate headpiece. The headpiece was decorated with multi colored feathers and even had a feathers hanging from it. It was delicate, intricate and looked amazing with the neutral toned swimsuit it accessorized.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and I was even more proud to support a brand that does its part by helping those who are less fortunate.

EM & Co Brings Europe to You

On Thursday, November 3, EM & Co hosted a very special event to bring to the public four amazing European designers. EM & Co is located at 7940 W. 3rd St,  near The Farmer’s Market, amongst a string of great little boutiques.  EM & Co carries a variety of fashions from various designers and unique accessories to match all styles, from casual to cocktail to couture. The spotlight was on four designers, from France, Romania and Ukraine. The ambiance of the night was relaxed and welcoming as models posed on pedestals wearing the designers’ new Fall and Spring collections.

From Romania, Elena Perseil, was one of the featured designers with a very unique style. Her eveningwear and couture line are well worth mentioning. She met a bit of every shopper’s style with sequence bolero jackets and dresses, minis and long, even evening gowns. Some of the dresses included a lavender dress with a branching floral pattern in sheer fabric overlays, and a black cocktail dress with zipper trim along the hem and sleeve accented with a purple stripe down the back, a very interesting design wearable for any night on the town. The feather dress in a neutral tone draped to the floor was spectacular. Elena Perseil spared no detail with this elaborate head turner.

Elisabeth Delauney is from France and has been designing for 25 years. Her line included faux fur vests and coats in animal prints and solids. The designs included tunics with scooping pockets, crochets and knit fabrics.  With the right accessories, these outfits can be transformed into a comfortable and sassy evening look. This is Delauney’s first step in the US. Her popularity and success in Europe is sure to follow her to the US.

Handbags by Torula, are a great accent for any occasion. These clutch bags are made from leather and ostrich skin.  The four featured fall colors were black, grey, taupe, and red. All the bags had suede lining and a removable chain for wear as a shoulder bag or a clutch. Torula’s designs were very simple yet elegant and very well made. Torula also makes wallets and other leather goods to accessorize your day or evening look.

Olena Dats from Ukraine, had some great designs including a long black wrap dress wearable in four different ways. This dress was elegant and had style as did its neutral tone shorter counterpart.  The other dresses and gowns were full of colorful designs in bold solids and intriguing patterns.

The designer collections will be available exclusively at EM & Co throughout the holidays, but after December they will be pulled and pop up again in Feb/Mar with new collections. The company Fashion Forwards brings these European designers to the US.“Bringing European fashions to Los Angeles has always been part of our constantly growing fashion industry,” says Fashion Forwards USA Coordinator, Alexandra Tuil. Fashion Forwards represents these designers in what they call a pop up store. New lines from these and other designers will appear in more pop up stores every few months so keep your eyes open.

Beach Ray’s ‘Feel Good’ Collection

Beach Rays Swimwear’s vision is to bring that ‘feel good’ surf lifestyle and culture to the world through fashion and trend.  The line is uber creative as the designers make each piece so that it can be mixed and matched.  The line is young, fresh and creative, and the suits ranged from sexy to sophisticated.

First off, a model waltzed down the catwalk in a tropical print two-piece with lace detailing on the top. The suit was reminiscent of feminine lingerie and was paired off right a trendy electric blue bag with massive bow detailing. I absolutely loved the next suit. It reminded me of a fifties pinup girl with its ruffled skirt bottom and push up wire halter-top. The cream color of the suit complemented the models dark skin and was extremely flattering. I especially liked the Navajo print (huge trend) one piece that had a side tie with a little lace peeking out of the top, adding a major element of sexiness to a normally simple one piece. If you’re a little more conservative but want an edge, this piece is perfect for you.

Appropriate for a pool part at a trendy hotel or at the beach in Miami, the next suit’s ruffled top could be worn as a halter or as a bandeau top. I am obsessed with the cream colored top mixed with a simple string bottom, a perfect mixture of sultry and sweet. Electric blue seems to be a favorite of Beach Rays- an electric blue zipper detailed piece was a HUGE hit in the crowd. I heard “oohs” and “ahhs” as this stunner walked out. The black zipper detailing really made this blue pop.

For all of you risk takers, if you really want to get noticed, Beach Ray’s animal print cut out one piece is the suit for you. Paired with flat army boots, this suit got attention with its pretty pastels.  Multi-colored two pieces seemed to be a theme on the runway with tie bottoms and simple detailing; the models killed it and the suits flattered every one of them perfectly.

The audience was hit with an explosion of neon pink when models walked out with ruffled pink tops paired with bikini bottoms and neon pink hoop earrings. Pucci inspired pink tops were unique and different than the average bikini. A pink, black and white Pucci inspired print was used as a bikini and also as a one piece.

A purple and black color blocked one piece with a bustier style top was my favorite of the show. The color, detailing, and material made this a go-to suit for every shape and size. The SAME suit was even made into a two piece- stunning! All in all, the show had explosive energy and the crowd seemed to enjoy the music, collection and gorgeous models!

Dina Bar-El’s 2012 Collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week

Dina Bar-El is known for the stunning yellow dress Kate Hudson wore in How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days and some of the dresses at Los Angeles Fashion Week in October were just as stunning.

There were a variety of dress styles to hit the runway and they all had one thing in common, form-fitting and super sexy, and some were even fun. The light-hearted white citrus fruit dress was all about fun, a carefree dress for a more casual encounter. Polka dots make an appearance in a half sleeve off the shoulder dress with that same elegant sex appeal Julia Roberts had in her polka dot dress in Pretty Woman. The sexy styles continued as the show went on. The mustard criss-cross front and teal ruched dress were both low cut and super hot. Depending on your intentions, wear them to the office or to play, either way you are sure to be noticed. There is also shine and shimmer in this collection. Between the cocktail dresses and gowns, glittery gold and rich blues with scooped necks or shoulder straps made Dina Bar-El’s new collection a dazzling one.

The glamorous evening gowns were the stars of this collection. Dina Bar-El definitely mixes luxury with life. The smashing off the shoulder long red dress had two silky accent lines running down the front with a high-cut slit giving this dress an exquisite attitude. The best however was a white floor length gown with a rhinestone waist accent shaped like a giant snowflake was as graceful and elegant as it gets. Most of Dina Bar-El’s 2012 collection has the elegant look a woman wants and the comfort she demands, for a price of course.

Fashion Week LA: Lawren Michelle’s Romantic Collection

Lawren Michelle’s line is feminine, romantic, and anything but boring.  The constant splashes of color in the line are only fitting for a collection that is sure to stand out over so many other ready-to-wear collections.  Michelle’s collection can be mixed and matched, spans from comfortable to date night frocks, and boasts an array of stunning accessories. The line is perfectly tailored to fit all different shapes and sizes of women, making me truly aware that Lawren has created her line to be functional and beautiful with the contemporary woman in mind.

The ensembles were perfect for us LA girls, with the perfect amount of color to make you pop out of a crowd.   Michelle’s collection is comprised of separates and one pieces. I especially loved her short two-toed orange jumper- it screamed fall! It was paired with a short blazer and finished off with a skinny belt.  It was interesting to see the print come out again- this time in a skirt, and matched with a polka dotted sleeveless top- an immensely different combination- yet, it worked so well!

Here come the brights! Lime green and hot pink separates were paired with high wasted polka dotted shorts and pants and the look was polished and professional. I never would have thought neon and polka dots mixed well, but I was absolutely wrong. Michelle’s high wasted parachute pant stood out to me; paired with a crisp, white button down, these pants would be great for the office (plus, they looked ridiculously comfortable!).  I enjoyed seeing the use of the lines’ mixing and matching of fabrics. A pink neon dress with leather detailing was extremely effective in portraying that “good girl with an edge” look. The detail along the neckline added some extra “oomph” to the average style of the dress.

A huge theme of the line was khaki. Whether it was pants, a blouse, a skirt, a dress, or a full on pantsuit, the khaki alone or paired with the colorful blouses Lawren Michelle is known for were bold and beautiful.

I just about died when I glanced at the runway and a light green short dress with a cut out in the front waltzed by me- the color, the shape- everything was fabulous! I would wear it alone, or with a boyfriend blazer in cold weather.  Lawren’s royal blue based floral collection looked stunning on the models skin, and brought some added cheerfulness to the line. Michelle used this print in a dress (with cutouts, once again), and as a blouse paired with a royal blue, ruffled knee length skirt.

Lawren Michelle’s flawless collection was a true success based on the fact that I, along with numerous other people that I spoke with, wanted to purchase everything on that runway. Check out Lawren Michelle’s line and get a universal wardrobe that will flatter any figure!
